Week 2 Poker Update: Steady Results and Refocusing the Process
Week 2 was intentionally low volume. The goal wasn’t grinding hours but tightening focus on the ROF strategy while getting a few other areas of life back in line. Health and diet are back on the priority list, so poker volume took a slight back seat this week.
Even with the lighter schedule, the results came in solid and the week stayed controlled with no wild swings.
Online Results – 40NL
Online play was short and focused. I logged roughly 300 hands across four short sessions at 40NL and finished up $160.
Variance swung back in my direction after last week’s run of coolers. A few key hands went my way:
- Set of 4s from the BB on a J-high flop. I got it all in against AJ and held.
- KK vs two villains all-in preflop. They showed AQ and AJ, and kings held.
- AQ vs AJ all-in on a QQJ flop where top trips locked it up.
Nothing crazy happened at the tables this week. Just solid spots, good value situations, and hands holding when they needed to.
Live Poker Session
I only managed one live session this week, but it turned out to be a good one.
The game was extremely juicy. There was a lot of money on the table and several players splashing chips around. One player in particular was running extremely hot and had built a stack of around $1,800.
At one point he hit a one-outer for quads against a top full house in a pot worth around $1,000. Total sun run.
Unfortunately for the table, his girlfriend showed up, saw the stack of chips in front of him, and made him leave shortly after. Once he left, the game started to fall apart and eventually broke.
Rather than jump into a new table, I called it a night.
The session lasted about three hours, finishing +$309.
The key hand from the session is featured in this week’s Hand of the Week:

Looking Ahead to Week 3
This upcoming week may look a little different.
The Ante Up Poker Tour is in town, and I’m planning to take a shot at satelliting into the Main Event. If that doesn’t work out, I’ll stick to the normal plan and grind cash games on Wednesday and Saturday.
Challenge Progress
Through two weeks of the challenge:
- Week 1 + Week 2 Total: +$670
- Goal: $1,000 in 4 weeks
Right now the challenge is on pace. The focus remains the same going forward: stick to the ROF strategy, keep sessions disciplined, and let the results follow.
Week 3 should be interesting.
